President Emmerson Mnangagwa has come to the rescue of 20 000 Domboshava villagers who were ordered with an eviction notice by a Chinese-owned granite mining company on Friday.

Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Energy Mutodi said, “President Emmerson Mnangagwa has come to the rescue of Domboshava villagers who were facing eviction by a Chinese quarry mining firm Aihua Jianye. The President has ordered that the firm stops mining activities in the area known for its rock art and as a tourist attraction.”

The Chinese company was planning to evict 20 000 individuals from their land after it was granted mining rights to extract quarry stones from a hill in their area.

Mutodi further said that at a meeting that was held at Zimbiru Primary School with Domboshava residents on Saturday it was revealed that MDC Councillor Tapiwa Murima and the District Administrator Prisca Dube were behind the sale of Garimo hill to Chinese quarry miners.

“US$ 600K, 4 cattle and goats were paid. The MP and villagers were not consulted.”Mutodi said.

Addressing the meeting Mutodi said, “We all know that the Chinese will never leave any meaningful development in our community except a trail of destruction. So we do not want them here. The law says no one will be displaced without being offered an alternative place to stay.”
