There are reports that the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has suspended the increase in the price of bread to between $3.30 – $3.50 per loaf.

Zimbabwe across the political and economic divides were shocked to discover on Tuesday morning that the price of bread had gone up from $1.80 to a whopping maximum of $3.50. Unsurprisingly, Zimbabweans spent the whole day on social media commiserating on this issue and giving each other advice on alternatives to bread.

However, seeing that the situation was a potential powder keg, the government moved in quickly to defuse the situation and the cabinet is reported to have resolved to suspend the price increase.

More details to follow.
