U.S Citizen Arrested For Illegally Staying In Zimbabwe
In a very unlikely incident, an American citizen was nabbed at the Robert Mugabe International Airport on Sunday for illegally staying in Zimbabwe for close to 6 years without a permit.
The H-Metro reports that Harris Sean Michael, 36, allegedly entered the country on June 28, 2013 and was issued a holiday Visa for 30 days. His permit became invalid on July 27 2013.
An application for extension of days was made and he was given another month which expired in August 2013. The accused however did not seek the extension for his stay in Zimbabwe.
Micheal is alleged to have been illegally residing in Zimbabwe for five years and nine months.
It is reported that on April 7 this year, Micheal proceeded to the immigration officers’ desk at the RGM International Airport with the intention of hiding his permit record.
An immigration officer manning the exit desk then probed if Micheal had any permit. Micheal was then arrested when he failed to produce a valid permit.
Appearing before magistrate Learnmore Mapiye facing charges of contravening the Immigration Act, Micheal pleaded guilty and was fined $200 for illegally staying in Zimbabwe without a valid permit.
He risks being jailed if he fails to pay his fine.
